Performing Arts –  Term 2 Overview

Foundation

Welcome to the world of dance! Students in foundation will explore the fundamental elements of movement, rhythm, and expression. Through imaginative play and structured activities, they will learn to move their bodies creatively, exploring different ways to travel, jump, and balance. They’ll discover the joy of dance through music, experimenting with various styles and rhythms. Furthermore, they will begin to understand the importance of spatial awareness and teamwork as they engage in simple choreographic tasks with their peers.

Grade 1/2

In our Performing Arts program, students in grades 1/2, will explore the exciting world of music! Grade1/2 students will begin by learning the fundamentals of music theory, including rhythm and notation. As they progress, they will have the opportunity to develop their skills further by exploring basic ukulele techniques. Through hands-on activities and engaging lessons, students will not only learn to appreciate music but also gain confidence in their ability to create it.

Grades 3/4

In Performing Arts, the grade 3/4 students will begin the term by continue their music development with the recorder. Students will then explore the world of dance. Students will develop their creativity, coordination, and confidence through a variety of movement experiences. They will learn fundamental dance techniques, explore different styles of dance, and have the opportunity to create their own dances. The grade 3/4 students will also learn about the elements of dance such as body, space, time, and energy, and how these elements are used to create meaning in dance. Through this program, I aim to foster a love of dance and encourage students to express themselves creatively through movement.

Grades 5/6

In the Performing Arts, the grade 5/6 students will be focusing on Dance. Students will delve into a exploration of movement, expression, and creativity. Throughout the term, students will engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of dance as an art form. They will have the opportunity to develop fundamental movement skills, explore different dance styles and techniques, and participate in choreographic processes to create their own dance compositions. Through both individual and collaborative experiences, students will learn to express themselves physically and emotionally, building confidence and self-awareness. Additionally, they will explore the cultural and historical contexts of dance, gaining insights into its significance and relevance in society.
